What do you think of when you think of success? Success can have such a loaded and open-ended answer. Success to me doesn’t always mean becoming rich and famous, to me what matters more is your ability to establish and cultivate meaningful relationships that can give you a “blueprint” to long term success.
I remember being a young 19 year old and wanting to be in the music industry and work with artists. I knew that I wanted a someone with experience that could really show me the ropes of how the music industry worked. I was very fortunate to meet my mentor Lashon “TS” Jones. He was very important to my growth in where I ultimately knew where I wanted to get to in my career in the industry. He always took time to teach me everything I needed to know and always gave me great advice. I think one of the best things he ever did for me was be extremely hard on me because he knew I had what it took to be extremely successful. Great mentorship to me isn’t always about being liked but really it’s about being respected.
According to the Sonicbids blog platform they suggest five tips that I really think can be helpful to an artist who is seeking great mentorship that can lead to a successful career in the industry. The first tip is to determine if the person is the right fit for your music and what you want to achieve. The second tip is to be considerate of his or her time. The third tip is to attend conferences and workshops. The fourth tip is to not make it about you. The fifth tip is to sign up for the person’s newsletter. The final tip is to read industry blogs.

Always remember that once you find a mentor that you mesh well with you must never take your relationship with them for granted because they will often times be the balance that will keep you on your path to success in this industry!!!
